Body Mapping

Online workshop. Visually exploring the felt workings of our bodies and nervous systems through simple exercises and mark making.

About this event

This live online workshop is intended for everyone interested in exploring visual techniques using your body as both your instrument and muse. Using simple mark making we will explore the perceived workings of our nervous systems and bodily happenings.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR: No previous knowledge is required. Open to anyone. Even though most of the techniques we will explore are drawing exercises, they are for everyone interested in exploring new ways to tap into their creative ‘flow' and connect to their physical presence in a new way.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED / TOOLS: You’ll be able to use your preferred drawing and painting tools. I made some suggestions for specific ones below, but the ideas is to work with what you already have available around you. A pen and some paper are minimum requirement. Suggested tools:

Multiple pages of paper / sketch book

your favourite pen/s, marker/s

wax/pastel crayon or chalk

WHAT WE'LL DO: I’ll guide through some exercises to follow along at your own pace. Working with ideas based on methods borrowed from meditation (breathing techniques, body scanning), visual arts practices (automatic drawing, body mapping), and more.

INTENTION: The goal is to create an environment where we can practice and explore some techniques together-alone. Interacting and sharing your work with other participants will be available but never required. We will emphasize process over outcome and will hopefully leave you with some new tools or techniques to use in your own work, and open up new ways to connect to your body.

WHAT TO EXPECT: The workshop will be slow paced, quiet and meditative in nature, to help create an environment where you can focus and let yourself fall into your own rhythm and practice. Some movement will be involved. Dress comfortably.

HOW TO JOIN: A link to join the online workshop will be sent out shortly before event.

FEE: Pay what you can. Suggested donation: $32

Thank you!
